While investment education is critical, knowing how to apply it properly requires experience. One of the benefits of the investment club meetings is the ability to interact with people who are really closing deals in our area. There will always be a few people who will tell you how great they are doing, but more importantly there will be people who will tell you some horror stories. These are often much more valuable. By listening to stories from fellow investors, you will get an idea of what to do, as well as what not to do.
At every meeting we have our “Hot Seat”. A member of the group can present us with a challenge and we’ll brainstorm a course of action to help them solve it. The discussions can often be even more enlightening that our official presentation for that day.
Things that you may have never considered like HOA rules or what expenses to add to your budget are discussed. Even if you just listen to other people, you can pick up a few valuable pieces of information at each meeting. Not only can this information help your investment be more efficient, but it can save you time and money. There is something to be said about learning through experience but you can avoid some pain and heartache by listening and helping others.
